A longtime effort bears fruit at Grogan

Members of the Gate City Civitan Club and officials from the Town of Gate City have long been working toward the development of an expanded recreational area at the Town’s Grogan Park. There have been numerous set backs along the way – most notably, a claim of ownership of not only the expansion area but a great deal of the existing park – but now, with grants, donations and funding from the state, the Scott County School Board, the Upper Tennessee River Roundtable, Eastman Credit Union, private individuals, and the Gate City Civitan Club, ground breaking on two projects at the expansion area are being held next week.

There will be a Check Presentation from Gate City Civitan Club to the Town of Gate City for $34,000 for the walking trail at Grogan Park at 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 9 at Gate City Town Hall.

Groundbreaking for the Civitan Walking Trail at Grogan Park and the Rain Garden at Grogan Park will be held Wednesday, December 10 at 10 a.m. Contractors for both projects will be on hand.

The Walking Trail project will also include a new comfort station near the Gazebo, and additional parking near the expansion area.

The Rain Garden is a landscaped water runoff management project that will showcase principles that can be adapted for use at the home.

Hole-In-One 2008

The other Par 3 hole has a 5-day, 4-night golf getaway for 2 at a Fairmont resort.

Because it makes it difficult to assign places, we will trying to come up with a time for those undecided teams as quickly as possible.

Clergy Night Held

Sue Hobbs, from the evening club in Kingsport, gave our speech at Clergy Night. Sue is a former governor in Civitan, and visits with us often.

Free Hole-In-One Entry

You could win a car from JBR Buick-GMC and David C. Jackson, CPA.

JBR Buick-GMC of KingsportÂ will give away a new Buick as the Hole-In-One contest prize. Also to be given away by JBR at other Par 3 hole contests are a set of golf clubs, and attendance at a golf school.

Every registered amateur player competing in the tournament will receive a try at winning the Hole-In-One contest – no separate entry fee! (USGA Pro players are excluded from the hole-in-one and other par 3 contests.)

Other prizes to be given away on the day of the tournament include a Voodoo putter from Ray Kilgore, free rounds of golf at Scott County Park for both the morning and evening winning team, putter covers from Doc Whitley & Associates, umbrellas from Eastman Credit Union, a gold men’s bracelet from Scott Jewelers, and more.
